So, I took out the Riviera today with the newly switched out 50 (507H3D--1983), you know, the one where I had the local wrench switch out the lower units and install onto the boat. Anyway, if you're behind, the saga is all
easily found (lol). Of course, as is normal anytime I put trust in somebody else, the goober forgot to install the new water pump kit I had just bought.
It was pumping water pretty well, so I let it slide and brought her home.

Today, I decided, was launch day and what a day it was. Idling smooth as butter, so I had enough confidence to send the daughter home with the
trailer, and I was going to come by water to pick her and the admiral up.
All is well in the 'no-wake zone', but as soon as I hit the channel, I opened
up the throttle, and......the boat thought I was kidding. In a nutshell, it
decided no-wake speed was fast enough. Long story made short (I'm sure
you're bored already), I got it back home and realized that particular issue
was prop spin, which has been rectified (all error by yours truly). However,
the motor got hot, and as expected, wasn't pumping water. No prob, I've
got the kit, I'll drop the lower unit myself and handle that mess. However, about 2 1/2 hours after I got her home and in the garage, I removed the
cowling and the coils were still burning up?? I mean, 2 second hot, if you
know what I mean. Now, I know the motor got hot due to lack of water, but
should the coils be that hot this long after? I'm worried. Enough so that
I did compression test on this head (I hadn't done one took the word of
the PO) and all is ok there, at least....123/128. I can handle the water
issue, but what's next on these coils??? If this isn't normal, what do I do
next to diagnose why?

Thanks so much, and you guys are the reason I have the confidence to
even attempt figuring out this problem!
