1974 150HP Merc, inline 6; with in the past week I have replaced the impeller and had terrific flow and warm water (not hot) and the power head cool, as well as the shaft (between lower unit and power head). I transported it to my home and now VERY LITTLE flow, HOT water, and the shaft was a lot warmer to touch. Ran this for possible five minutes. FYI water ran with muffs both times

I have since dropped lower unit to inspect impeller (looked good), blew air out of rubber hose/telltale with good flow as well as blew air into power head and could feel air coming down to lower unit. Not same pressure on the out flow but put back together and started motor. Only ran for 1-2 max minutes when notice little flow or trickle out telltale. Water was warm but did not run long. FYI no water flowing through port with motor off and muffs/water turned on...

Could something lodged in power head (calcium or build up) to obstruct flow and is there a solution to flush. PLEASE HELP.....

Re: Hot water from telltale

Yes it could. Usually it's a piece of the old water pump, but I've been shut down by a handfull of splinters from a rotten log sawn in half at planing speed.

Also, there's a seal at the water pump outlet, and another at the power head end of the water delivery tube.

It would help to know what engine we're talking about.

hope it helps

If you cannot find the solution in the lowerunit, you will need to pull the powerhead and inspect the top of the water tube.
