I want to do a weekend away with wife and was thinking about trailierng boat to St Augustine area. I have never been over there, so might be fun weekend get-away spot. Anyone familiar with the area have any recommendations for a resort/hotel with dockage? Thanks.

Re: Hotel/Resort in St. Augustine FLA w/ dockage

We have always stayed on the boat at the municipal marina. http://marinas.com/view/marina/4069 Clean bathrooms and shower facilities. That thing just to the south is a restaurant, not part of the city marina, but a decent place to eat, just not cheap. One of those buildings across the street is a hotel, cause I know some boat club members have stayed in hotel instead of on their boats. But I see no real reason to not stay on the boat, if you have the room. As a note, when we were there in December 2006, the construction on that bridge did make noise during the day and started fairly early in the morning, but I was able to sleep through the night well enough.
There is also Camachee Cove, http://marinas.com/view/marina/3895 my parents' boat club has stayed there and it's fine I guess. It's just not as close to "downtown" and you have to get a cab ride to the fort and to see the Light Up Night at the Bridge of Lions.
All in all I love St. Augustine, and could spend a day at the fort all by myself. Also, go to Fort Matanzas south of St. Augustine too, if you can. And report back to me, I have only seen it from the water. Have a great time.

My wife and I have always stayed at the Bayside Inn, right up the street from the Bridge of Lions. Within easy walking distance of the A1A Aleworks, St. George St., and Castillo de San Marcos. Lots to do within a 4-5 block radius! There's a marina right across the street from the Bayside, too, but I'm not familiar with the accomodations, etc. Worth a look, though...

We have a 20ft bowrider so sleeping on the boat is not an option. A resort with dockage would be preferred, but I guess across the street would be fine too.

Do you mean BayFront Inn? I could not find a listing for Bayside Inn.

Yeah, that's the one. It's a bit on the older side (as most things downtown St. Augustine are), but it is clean and the people who run it are nice... Last time we stayed there was two years ago and they were in the midst of a remodeling then. May have modernized some things...

Bayside is still there, safe, good security and within walking distance of everything.

Call ahead and see if they will let you park your boat trailer there, I was able to.

I used Vilano beach boat ramp and be careful as at low tide it is shallow, need to run North to the bridge and follow the west bank to get to the boat ramp as there is sand bar right out from the channel of the ramp.

St Augustine is great, both from the water and the old town. enjoy.

We made reservations at Camachee Cove /Inn. Downside is they will not let us keep trailer on site, so I have to store it @ Hidden Harbor Marina. They only rent spots monthly so I will have a empty spot the other 26 days of the month. :). Camachee guy said he could try to hide the trailer for me, but there is outside shot homeowners association would tow it. :-(. That sounds like less fun then I want on my vacation, so I just rented a spot off site. We plan on checking out BaySide and The Couch House (the other places we investigated ) while in town to see if we want to change it up when we go back. I am looking forward to the trip, thanks for everyone's advice. Any "must see" things to do while there, other then the obvious downtown history things on land?.

I loved the Lightner Museum. Not because of what's on display, but because of the history of the building, and what it looks like inside. The pictures of the old indoor "swimming pool" are the best.
