I have a 1973 Evinrude 85horse. I did a decarb a few weeks ago and decided to go out and check the compression and change the plugs. They came back 120, 123, 125, 105.

The plug that came from the 105 was very clean and seemed to have some water droplets on it. I am assuming that water is getting in from a gasket somewhere.

How bad is it going to get if I keep running it like this and how much will it be to fix it? Can I do this myself?

Thanks for the help.

Howdy Tx....Ya' know any hombre's down there that go by JB? Just had ta' throw that in.

Well....water can be gettin' into the cylinder from a couple places. One....the head gasket could have a leak and two...the exhaust cover gasket could have a leak. But seein' as how the compression is a tad low on that cylinder, the head gasket is the place I'd head first. Ain't no big deal to change. Just gotta have a torque wrench to do the job right. Head gasket will set ya' back about $30 American money. I wouldn't run it with a water leak. Does nasty things to the walls of the cylinder.

Hope we've helped a little. Keep us posted.
