How big a trailer

I am rebuilding a 1988 Hurricane Deck boat. It is sitting on a Shorelander trailer that is a single axle trailer. Heres my question if the boat is 1780lbs empty and is 18'6" long
Where the boat sits between the fenderwells is 75" wide. Overall it is 96" at the top side to side. I am going to get a heavier trailer but, am trying to figure out what size I need. I found one that is from a Bass boat but, it is only 16ft 7" from winch to end of bunk board. Is it cool to just extend the bundk past the end of the trailer?

Re: How big a trailer

It's tough to make a call on something like this as you definitely want a proper fit for boat/trailer. My boat is 17'-3" and came with a trailer supposedly designed for a 16'-18' boat. However it seemed short to me but they made up for it by using bunks that were on edge so the strength of the wood supported far more weight than bunks laying flat. In the end I extended the length of my trailer 18" by welding on frame extensions and another cross member. Some trailers have adjustable axles to play around with proper tongue weight but you want to watch the weight hanging on your transom while truckin down the highways. Wood can most definitely snap.

Thats is what i kind of thought. I have a Tracker single axle pontoon trailer that I thought I would play with to make work. the current trailer will work for the time being but, seems short.

Thanks
