I plan on trailering a 27' Thompson Daytona 275 about 25 miles to Lake Huron, some of my friends say it is to big to trailer and that I should put it in a slip at the local marina. So I am curios as to what everyone how big a boat everyone pulls. Thanks Chad

14' Glastron on a 16' Yacht Club (winch post adjusted back to 14'). <br /><br />I think one of the restrictions (state or fed?) on trailering boats is on the width of the boat and/or trailer. I think somewhere around 8'.

Chad your tow is a short trip so I would think that 27 feet is not all that bad as long as you have the correct setup, good tow vehicle and brakes on your trailer... I tow a 5000lb Wellcraft/tandem trailer combo with a ford explorer on a 250 mile round trip,no problems at all, my towed length is just over 26feet.

I think also that the width is what you need to be aware of. It's either 8' or 8' 6" - perhaps differing among states. I 'm assuming this from travel trailer towing. We tow a 23' Sea Ray @ 4000 lbs on a Quick Load trailer with twin axels - from FL to MD back and forth spring and fall with a Ford F-150 (5.4 L) set up for towing. We also have been towing a travel trailer(s) for 20 years, so we are very comfortable with towing.

I forgot to say my truck is a Chevy 2500HD and the boat weighs about 7300lbs, I also pull a 28' 5th wheel so I am comfortable towing the boat.

As long as it fits into width restrictions of your state and you have the proper tow set up, go for it. I recently passed what looked to be a 35' Donzie on a triple axel trailer. There are also freight companies that deliver boats $$$.

I pull a 21' on a trailer designed for a 25'<br />(yes, modified for weight distribution)<br /><br />I wouldn't think 27 is to big... how wide is it?

Hey Chadh, I pull a 25' Odyssey tripontoon boat, with a 350 I/O motor. I pull it with a 1998 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab with a 318 engine. My first pull took 7 hours from the Dealer, home. My only problem was I lost the Anchor light bulb cover. Stupidly of me, I got all the way home before I realized I did not have a spare tire. I never realized that a spare tire is an Option on a boat trailer. Glad someone was looking out for me, no tire problems. Have also pulled 35 miles, with no pulling problems. You, with a 2500 should not have that much problems. Now I have to get some extended mirors for my Dodge. GodsBeast

I tow a 24' pontoon on a 31' trailer 32 miles round trip every Saturday & Sunday. <br /><br />My buds all told me to dock it because it would be a hassle to tow, put in, and take out.<br /><br />Just the opposite! And I tow with a 1976 Dodge D100!<br /><br />-Spiker
