Finally! After almost a year spent on this 470 engine rebuild (as well as bell housing and outdrive rebuilt), and after dealing with the frustration of the machine shop doing less than a perfect job on the head (sticky valve/bent pushrods), I got everything reassembled and even fixed the carb flooding problem.
This thing started up like nothing and purred like baritone kitten. It idled very smoothly. I incrementally ran it up to 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, and 3500 rpm. It was beautiful man! No bent pushrods! No coolant or oil leaks! My family gathered around the boat and there was much rejoicing.
Then the engine blew up because I forgot to put oil in it. JUST KIDDING!!!
I've got a stainless steel trim pump bracket on the way, and a Pertronix ignition conversion kit on the way, too.
Now, I only have to adjust the throttle and shift linkages, adjust the trim limit and trim indicator switches, and replace some rotten wood in my seats, AND WE'LL BE ON THE WATER!
Thank you Forum for all your help!
