I have a Chaparral 205SC with a Mercruiser 5.0 litre engine; need help to find info re. year build and model number to order parts and more. All I know is that the engine is called MCM 5.0 litre, 305 CID, has a Thunderbolt 5 ignition and the serial reads something like MO-87320. Searches in other areas have yielded no result ... I guess to know that the engine has 220 HP (stated in the boat documents).

While the number is close to being an engine serial number, it dose not seem to match your description. Do you have a carbureted or fuel injection engine model?

Using/bringing the number above as one, it would look like 0M087320 and that number comes up as an 5.0L ALPHA EFI.

So it really is important that the correct serial number is used in order to find your model number, etc. etc...

The best place to locate the original serial number can normally be found in the location of Bt Doctur's photo above.

Thank you for your attention ! The engine is carbureted; it has a single carburetor. From what I was told by the previous owner the engine might be around 10 years old. The serial is located as per the photo above (thanks for the help!) yet difficult to recognize - the digits I reported is really the best I could get.

Based on your description and using some of the serial number provided, this should be your parts catalog.

Sometimes to read the serial number you'll need to clean up the tag a bit then use a flashlight or camera to help read the numbers. Hope you give reading the number another try when you get time.;) Good luck.:)

Thanks so much ! The first part I needed was the alternator (it gives me high power at 16V + and the engine shuts off); I was looking for the part by its own reference and came up with a part that would fit exactly this model ... so there's hope ...
