Hello. I have a year 2000-150 Johnson ocean pro(60 deg. V6) w/ the OIS2000(optical eye) ignition. Does anyone know how to temporarily disable the quickstart function?
You can temporarily disable QuikStart by disconnecting the black and white wire between the temperature switch and the powerpack and grounding the powerpack end of the wire.
Thanks. I'm trying to set the timing on this engine and the procedure I have instructed me to disconnect the port temp switch and ground the powerpack side of the tan lead to engine ground..........did not work. I'll try the other wire as you said. Thanks again.
I have read obout "the box" you mentioned(unfortunatley I don't have one). I am trying to use the alternate method. (1) Disable quickstart (2) Remove all spark plugs (3) Set timing pointer using piston stop tool (4)Connect inductive timing light to #1 plug wire. (5) Crank engine over with a remote starter switch and check timing with the timing light. (6) Adjust as required and recheck. (idle first then full throttle)
I have not tried this method before so any info would be helpful. Thanks
Re: How can I disable the quickstart function?(Timing)
To be honest we've never set the base like that on an OIS system, always used the box since it's so simple. I guess it would work, Joe Reeves probably knows for sure. Just make sure to check it, those motors are pretty sensitive to timing and combustion temps.
Re: How can I disable the quickstart function?(Timing)
Hey Dhadley. Thanks for the info. I'll attempt to set it this weekend. Just a thought here.......... Using the method that I described previously should I be setting the timing to the Seloc manual specs of 4-6 deg.ATC idle and 20 deg. BTC at full throttle or do you think I may need to adjust for "electronic" inputs that may be present once the engine is running? Thanks again for your input.
