How can i find year of motor?

I was told when i bought my engine it was an 85. I was wondering if their was a way i can find out using the internet exactly what year it is? Reason being i see people having these 140 engines from the 60's on and i want to know for sure what year mine is the guy i bought it from didnt seem to knoe much. Thanx!

Find the serial number of the engine. It's usually on a tag on the block somewhere. Post the serial number, model, HP or anything else you can find written on it and someone will be able to tell you. If all else fails, post a couple of pictures.
