Hey all,

My Bravo bellhousing with the shift cable housing that is still stuck inside it:

How can I get this piece removed so I can proceed with my boat repairs? I don't know about this idea to drill it out with my hand held drill. Is it going to be my only option and fix?

I had to use a bolt cutter to cut off the old cable to remove this bellhousing from my boat. I tried to use a rachet and socket on the backside on what's left of the shift cable housing on the nut but it broke. It just spins around now. I also tried to hammer it out with a brass piece to no avail.

Any help will be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I've had to drill out several of them. Start small and go a little at a time so you don't drill into the housing if it gets off center a little.

are you saying the nut broke or the corners rounded off... because it looks like the nut is in pretty good shape in the pictures. if the corners are rounded use the next smaller or try a metric socket and pound it on the nut if need be. also, since it's only aluminum, a little propane or map gas where the fitting threads into (not heating the fitting itself) can go along way.

Reviving an old thread... I have 1993 Bravo II, and the pictures show exactly what I see in my bell housing. The nut on the cable stub side broke off and spins freely. I have been able to just pull this nut (actually, broken off hexed part of the brass cable housing) off over the cable.

As I understand it, i need to drill out the remainder of the brass threaded part, but what do I do next? Do I need to rethread the hole? I have already ordered the lower shift cable, but it had not arrived yet. Does the new style cable have similar thread, or I can just slide it in the hole and tighten the nuts on both ends?

You need to start your own thread, not hijack someone elses or open old threads. If your problem is similar use a link to this thread in your post as reference.
Too often people don't see a new subject and reply to the original, or see the date and move on.
