My boat is pretty simple, so I dont have an RPM gage. How can I find out what the actual RPM is on my motor? Thanks. Cris

I have a Johnson 88, I think the specs say 4800 - 5500, and recommend a 17" prop, 13 3/4.

rent, borrow, or buy, a timing light that has the tach function on it. clip the pick up lead to the #1 spark plug wire.

You could also get a Tiny Tach.Simple to install reasonable price.
Order it for your motor and it will work on any 2 stroke 2 cylinder.

$50 bucks will get you a tach -- go to e-bay and buy a used one for probably half that.

If it is a one time need,(ie: checking RPM's for a prop) see if a local marina will let you rent/borrow one for a trip around the lake. My marina very open to helping people without charge with the thought that when you do need to buy something you will remember their kindness.
