how close?

so i've got my floor out, but because of the width of the plate on my circular saw i have about a 2-3" band of old, solid floor all the way around the perimeter of the interior of the hull (where the floor was glassed to the hull). this is also in close proximity to where the two planes of the hull intersect (see where arrow is pointing in image). because of this intersection, it's pretty tight in there.
my question is, if the remaining band of floor is solid, is there a way to fit the new floor into the opening i have and splice to this band. the inside edge where i cut is about 1" from the exposed hull with no stringer in this area, or should i grind this band out and glass a new hull all the way to the outer hull.
hope this is not too confusing, don't have any pics at this time.

Re: how close?

i have done what you are talking about many times. cut a 1x4 either scrap plywood, or dimenional lumber. slide it under the lip and then with appropriate length screw the lip to the scab underneath. then you have a place to attach the new floor around the edge. i have use wedges to hold the 1x4 in place while screwing. then glass in the joint very well.

Re: how close?

I am doing my first one here and used a circular saw as well. Once I slid the old plywood out I used a die grinder with a cutoff blade to cut the band of glass out. Worked out well.
