How could water get in here?

My '89 Chaparral 2100SX has the integral swim platform off the back. Hope you can see what I mean from the picture. While at the lake this Memorial Weekend I had my head stuck in the back of the boat looking for a leak. I just did bellows and wanted to make sure I did a good job. In addition to water in my bilge I noticed water sloshing around way in the stern of the boat back where the swim platform is. There is a compartment back there that is hard to describe, but where the swim platform wraps around the outdrive. We had a lot of rain the night we arrived and the boat sat on the trailer with the camper enclosure. Then we had a pretty good storm with some high waves on Sunday, but I still have no idea how water could get back in that compartment. There is only about 4 inches between the wall that creates the compartment back there and the top of the hull structure. Wish I could get a pic back there. I'll see what I can do tonight. Anyone ever experience anything like this. Any ideas about how to figure out how water got back there? Thanks for the help!

Do you beach your boat? These integral steps (which I like) can leave the hull to deck joint under water if the bow is up. I have seen it on a newer Chaparral (236 SSi).

I had a similar situation recently. Was out fishing with a full bait tank and 2 adults fishing near the stern allowing the hull joint to go in the water. I was getting a lot of water in the boat. I took off the rub rail that covers that joint and resealed the entire length. I was able to take some flash pictures at night from inside the boat and see the flash shining through joint.

Yes, it sure seems like water would have to come in the back in order to get in there. We did have a huge storm on the lake on Saturday and my bow was getting smashed with high waves, definitely putting the stern of the boat under water. I'll remove the rub rail back there. I'll bet that's what happened. I'll let you know, thank guys!

No QC I normally use an auger anchor and leave the boat off shore.
