Re: How do i catch Spotted Seatrout??????

While I have caught seatrout around structure I would say that I caught a greater amount of them in water 1-4ft with no obvious structure, just seagrass beds.

For the most part I've caught them off of live finger mullet but as usual shrimp works as well. I've had mild success with using a DOA shrimp/crab lure.

All this information is from fishing the Indian River in FL.

From Matlacha Pass in Cape Coral, Florida. Fished next to some pilings sticking out of the water, remains of some old private channel markers. Were fishing live shrimp on 1/4oz white jig heads and were hitting trout with almost every cast. There was the occasional ladyfish in there too but mostly trout, most too small to keep. Had a blast fishing though. Gulp, DOA, live pinfish all did nothing. They were only after the shrimg yesterday. And, all while I had a small pod of dolphins swimming aprox 20 foot off the other side of my boat.

Kymasab....

i guarantee you those dolphins were eating every single trout you released.... i had the same experience in the indian river... the dolphin were hanging around the boat all day.. and we thought "man thats cool, and we are still catching fish!!"....then I caught a trout, 10" or so, and as i was reviving him in the water the dolphin came up and took the fish right out of my hand!!! i almost had to change my pants!!
.....they are very smart animals, and they know an easy meal when they see one!

down here in south texas we call em "speckled trout". live shrimp, finger mullets, maulers (popping corks), mirrolure (she dogs, he dogs, etc.) all work well. Personally I prefer live shrimp / finger mullet. fun to catch and great to eat. usually in the shallows.

+1. Add a Gulp! Shrimp and you are in business. By the way paintitup12, are you moving south? I noticed all your questions about fishing flats fish.

In La. they are called speckled trout also like our great neighbors in Texas. We catch them on live shrimp I would say first and foremost although other live baits are close behind. Like cocaho minnows live croaker. But all the DOA and GULPs other plastics work well too under a popping cork or on jig heads on bottom. When they are on bottom a live bait Carolina rigged also. We fish them over oyster reefs.
