How do I center my rotary steering after changing motors?

Ok I had no steering problems on a old 77 Lowe Hustler with a 77 model 35 hp Erude...I took the 35 off and put on a 98 model 40 hp Erude and now it will not cut as far to the right as before. How do I center my steering? Does it take a different linkage rod from the motor to the steering cable? One of mine was adjustable and I did shorten it as much as allowed but still not as much as before. I am going to hook the 35 up on the 98 model Bass America stick steer that the 40 hp came off of, I wonder will I have issues here also? Does anyone know how to adjust the centering? I am off this week and would like to get a little fishing in.
