How do I check Lower Unit Fluid level

Hi all I have a 1989 Force 85 horsepower. I have added lower unit fluid a few times and I have never needed more than 5 or 6 pumps from the container to fill it up. Unfortunatly I don't really see how one might check the amount in the LU or the condition of the fluid there in without draining it. Do I make a custom dipstick out of paper clips?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as are most of the posts on the forum!
Thanks,
Minnow

No way to check it.Unless it leaks you shouldn't have to worry. If you drain it and there is water in it.Then it needs work.
Fill the unit by removing the oil. Then fill thru the fill hole till it comes out the other hole. Then pump oil back in that hole till it comes out the fill hole. Then do it again.J
