How do I check the coil?

I have a 1980 honda 7.5hp, I can't get any spark to the plugs, How do I check the exciter coil to see if it good? Thanks:<br />Rodney

Hi CJ<br /> remove the spark plug caps and measure the resistance between the high tension wires.<br /> Should read 8k ohms +\- 20%<br /> Test resistance between the little pole and laminations. Reading should be 0.56 ohms +\- 10%
