How do I check the switch box and trigger?

I have a 40 HP merc two cylinder that is only firing on one cyl. How do I check the trigger and switch box, and what does the trigger do? I've checked the stator and coils and they are good. Thanks

Hello, I have whent through the same thing that you are going through if you look for my older posts they will give you the answers you need , I have got alot of useful info from the guys on here. When you say you checked the stator and it was good did you have a DVA meter or an adapter for your multimeter because to do this properly you need one of these. Thanks and good luck.

I checked the stator and coils with an Ohm meter. Acording to my Merc service and repair handbook the readings are within range. I'm about to go to Radio Shack to pick up the components to build a DVA. Will report back. What should it read with a DVA? Thanks

I just got back from Radio Shack and they don't have the components I need. I guess I'll have to go on line to get them. I'll be back when I get the parts built up and the checks made. Probably several days.

Hello order a dva adapter from USA tool Warehouse just google it they have one for 26.00 dollars works fine and im not for sure but i was told that there is no check that can be done for the switchbox atleast that is what i was told by CDI tech support hope this helps.
