Replacing the trailer jack on a Shorelander dual axle that holds my 205 Rinker Cuddy. I am installing a 7000 lb. coupler. I cannot read any of the manufacturers data on the jack. I know I'm not lifting the entire weight of the boat....but how do you determine what size the replacement should be?

If your trailer is set up right... anything 1000 lbs or up will suffice.

Wow, 7000# coupler for a 20' cuddy is certainly more than sufficient! Tongue weight should be ~10% of the boat weight or so. I'd guess your boat is 3500# roughly, so you're looking to support ~350# (assuming proper setup). Giving a hefty margin of error & 1000# jack should be plenty in my opinion.

I'm making educated rough guesses on all these weights, so use my advice at your own risk.

just be sure not to get a cheapy. Mine is the right load rating, but it flexes and if I'm not carful it could fall. I should have spent the extra $20. Now I'm gonna have to spend what I paid originally plus that before someone gets hurt.
