how do i figure out what i aquired........

my soon to be father in law gave me a jon boat/trailer combo that happens to have a jhonson on the back of it. I am assuming that it is in the mid hp range aprox like a 50 (give or take a little) i am just guessing this by compairing the engine size to what i see on the water today. i do know that it is new enought to have electric shift on it and a aux pull start. i want to say twin cyl with a single carb. i am looking for info so when i start to rebuild this boat (all decking cam out like saw dust and had water standing in it. trailer had bad wheel bearings...pulled hub, brake drum, and tire.wheel as one unit) i know what i am dealing with and know where to get the parts. he did inform me that it was winterised before he stopped using it and i do know that it is not locked up but it has been sitting for about 10 years now unfired that i know of. thanks for your help

Electric Shift, pull start, twin cylinder, single carb.....gotta be a 40hp Evinrude or Johnson between 1962 and 1970.

how diffdcult are parts to find for a motor of this vintage?

is there anyhting inpiticular that you need pics of to figure out for sure what i have here?

Any model numbers off the engine are nice too. Parts are easy
to find.

Look on the port (left) transom bracket (bkt attaches eng to boat) for a small plate that would have the model and serial number. We need the model number to ID the engine. Also there may be a core plug (looks like a small freeze out plug) on the powerhead with those numbers.
