how do i fit a speedo to my boat?

hi ive got an oldschool speedboat, once had a apeedo but its now broken, how do i fit a new one, i can mount the gauge but what do i attatch it to on the engine/boat to read the speed?

Thanks, im a bit new to this boat thing!

Check to see what type of speedo it is, im assuming its a pitiot tube speedo. IF thats the case you just buy another speedo that uses a pitiot also. Then just reconnect the hose to the new speedo. I would blow out the hose prior to attaching the new one. Use compressed air toward the stern of the boat. Doing this will blow any blockage to blow out onto the ground outside the pitot so you dont have a damage to the boat or tubing.

Oh ya dont forget the make sure the new guage matches the inside diameter of the old one so it will jsut drop in.

My advice:
Forget the mechanical gauge and buy a cheap handheld GPS.
The mechanical gauges are woefully innaccurate and prone to troubles.
