How do I get the steering cable off the helm control

It is a Teleflex helm and cable from an '84 16' Oliver Seahawk. I can't figure out how to get the cable off the helm. The helm appears to be rivetted or perhaps snaps around the forward end of the cable. I am afraid I will break the helm control if I try to pry the two halves apart. I will post pictures tomorrow.

You have to push in the indention that's spring loaded to release the cable. I think it's a small hole on the housing...........

After you push in ths pin to release it, pull out on the cable casing, then turn the wheel to unscrew the cable from the housing.

Thanks for the advice. The hole near the cable on the forward side of the helm appears to be the one.

If I had asked the question earlier I could have taken the cable off without removing the helm from the boat.:redface:
