I have a 1992 Evinrude 15 hp and want to install steering, throttle and shifter on my 14 foot Jon boat. How do I do it and what all will I need to do so? Is it possible to go with 1 cable for steering? How does the throttle operate (electric?) and how do I know my motor has what I need? I guess I need to have all the answers from start as I never installed the controls before.

Look behind the tiller on the side of the motor there should be a place to mount the throttle cable, it is mechanical, the gear shift will mount on the other side of the motor and yes single cable steering is the way to go weather you go with a stick or wheel and you will have to get a control, cables, and the steering kit. plus the hardware to hook the cables to your motor.

I checked and there is a cable that goes through the housing and has a ball socket and snaps onto the throttle. So that takes care of that. Now if I can just find the controls for it.

I've looked at some steering systems and it appears that there are hookups for 2 cables. Can only one cable be used one the same box? And will it work okay?
