I have got a mercury motor for reco, I was told it was a 70hp, but it has no stickers to identify this?
Looking at it it's roughly the same size in bulk as my 50 yam on the boat now..
The only info I have is....it's a late eighthys or nineties 3 cyl twin carby 2 stk it's s/n is 9526545 and made in Belgium on the I'd plate.
Does anyone know how do Identify its year and hp.
Thanks tony

While a picture would defiantly help, your serial number and 70HP matches up to the 1988 model year as per the following website: http://www.autorepairmanuals.biz/page/609774

It also matches up with a 1988 90hp, and 100hp. So this is not a sure thing. There are no markings on the hood/cover?

Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated, as long as it's not a 50 hp which I thought it might be.
No there are no markings at all over the unit as the previous owner stripped the hood back for a spray.
The only info is the s/ n tag on the unit.
Thanks once again

Do you know now mercury, increased the hp from 50 to 70, as I have been told they share the same size cc in the powerhead?

I know that is true for the 70,75,80 & 90 of that era. All these had a displacement of 1165.7cc (I have the service manual for them). I cannot comment on the 50 because I do not know. Someone else may chime in though?
