How Do I Know I have the right Prop?

I just put in a remanufactured 460 king cobra in my 28' bayliner cirra. I can tell the prop is not right because a 3500 rpm the boat seems to go nowhere, and can't seem to plane out. Even with raising and lowering the outdrive, and trim tabs. Is there a formula for figuring out the right pitch? Boats my size and weight, were passing me like I was standing still.

Outdrives are equipped with gears to match the power attached. This creates a problem for some people who do re-power.

Was that the motor you started with? Any other changes? Is the throttle opening all the way?

You can look at a prop calculator and get an idea.

What was your previous performance?

3500 rpms is not WOT.
