How do I know my model # and year?

I bought what I was told is a 83 75HP Evinrude. I cannot find the model numbers on it. Is there a way for me to tell by any other marking or labels on it? I have a multitude of questions for you all, but I know the first thing that is asked is the model and year.

I did look up the parts diagram for the 83 75HP and in my eyes it looks the same, but then again I just found out today that there are entirely too many differences when it comes to some thing as simple as a spark plug.

No ID plate on the port transom clamp? Look on the power head for a silver core plug about the size of a quarter, might have the model number on it. Post some pictures and maybe someone can help you that way.

I think the ID plate has been painted over or removed. I took a picture of the only quarter sized plug I could find which is beneath the lifting loop.

Going by the number on that plug 75643D is a 1976 motor, can anyone confirm that the number on that plug is indeed the same thing that would show up on the transom clamp?

Yes it is a 1976 75hp you have there.....obviously not from 1983 as it has the old style coils/powerpack/silencer, does not appear to have a telltale either.....75643D is the model number and would have been on the the original id plate.
