I have a Mercury 2.2 hp outboard. I think the serial number is A819516 - does that sound right? If so, how do I look up the year manufactured and the specs? I want to try and perform the maintenance and upkeep myself. Thanks

thanks - so based on the info provided, I have a 1998 Mercury. How do I now get the maintenance guide for this motor? One of the things that I'm trying to determine is the oil/gas mixture ratio for this motor...

Your engine is a 1988 MERCURY TMC NA 2.2 MH, Model Number 1002201BK.

Your engine service manual is mercury part number 90-444771, It covers the 2.2/2.5/3.0/3.3 HP engines.

You will find all of the information that you are looking for in the service manual.;):)

Here are your parts to your engine when your ready for them.

Thanks! Wow - I looked up the service manual - $75.00???!!!! Can that be right? It might be cheaper to just by a new engine! The owners manual was $25.00. Will that contain enough info for me to properly maintain the engine?

The owners manual will give you just enough very basic information of "when and how" to maintain your engine with very basic specifications on oil's, greases, and maybe a spark plug gap, But not much more then that.

It does not go into detail really of how to work on the engine or how to change the water pump rubber impeller, Things like that.

Being it's an 1988 engine it might be time to have a service manual like that handy laying around Because you never know when you'll need it.

FYI, Keep in mind that the price of the service manual is either about the same as, or in a lot of cases it's cheaper than one hour's labor at some of the marine service shops.;)

P.S there are aftermarket service manuals that you can normally buy through places like this website (iboat.com ;)) at a cheaper price that will work ok, But keep in mind that sometimes you'll get what you pay for.;):(

Hay, if your into the holidays and someone asks you what do you want, Now you know.:D

Hope this helps, Good luck.:)
