How do I put a WD hitch on this trailer?

OK I got a great deal on a WD hitch, but now that I got it home, I see my trailer is set up much differant then any in the pictures. How can I put a WD system on my rig? I bought this unit for $40, Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution EQ90-00-1000. I would really like to get it to work somehow. Here is a picture of my trailer tongue.

OK well that answers that. The instructions that came with it did not show it attatched to the post sticking out. It only shows the arms that branch off attatching. I figured the spare and jack needed to go, but was thinking I would have to move, or cut that long post on the tongue.

Thanks for that link. Unreal that I didnt find that. I am losing my touch.

I may be wrong, I was wrong once(it was a Wednesday) but I don't think you can run weight distribution, and sway control with surge brakes.

Both attachments will hinder the ability for the coupler to actuate the master cylinder and apply the brakes.

Unless there's a new system out I'm not familiar with.

And I may be way off but I thought a WD hitch goes on the truck not the trailer.

there are people that have done it but it takes a fancy setup to use a wd hitch with surge brakes.... the easiest way to do it would be to pull off the whole surge brake system and replace with electric brakes.. probably not worth it...

The problem I see, is even if those bars can slide, there is weight being put on them causing them to bind. I just dint see how they say it won't interfere with the coupler.

Re: How do I put a WD hitch on this trailer?

I did a lot of research on it. The surge brakes will work. Not that they have ever done a whole lot anyway. I rebuilt the drum brakes a year ago and in November I heard a clunking noise. Brakes were completely disintegrated from rust. I put disc brakes on, but still cant feel any differance. I even had them checked by a couple places and they are working properly. So with that, and the fact that everyone I contacted about WD hitches, all said they will not interfere, I am putting it on. I am not doing the sway control though, because most of them DO interfere, so no sway control.

The fact is, the boat is heavy, and we are getting ready to take a 6 hour trip. I dont want to do it without WD. At some point I will likely change over to electric brakes, but since I just put brand new brakes on, it will be a while.

Here it is recommended for the OP's hitch which is the 10K model.

http://www.equalizerhitch.com/pdf/poletongueadaptorinstallationguide.pdf

For the 4k model, which is really small, you can apparently mount directly to the pole.

quoted from the pdf of the first link i posted

Equal-i-zer? hitch 6K, 10K, 12K, 14K models
This guide covers the installation of standard Equal-i-zer? hitch sway brackets on a pole tongue trailer. The
Equal-i-zer hitch will work with surge brake systems. If you are installing a 4K hitch model, please refer to the
4K specific installation guide. If this installation method will not work for your particular application, refer to
the Equal-i-zer Installation Guide, “Pole Tongue Adaptor.” You may also contact a customer service representative for support with your installation at 1 (800) 478-5578, M-F 8:00am to 5:00pm Mountain time.

the only reference to the 4k model is that it has its own installation guide.
just trying to save the op $$$

Cool! Do me a favor and post back how it all works. Honestly I've never seen a boat with weight distribution, I'm curious to know how well it all works

I think the hitch type that the OP bought is the best for use with surge brakes. I think the sliding bar is better than the chain type equalizing bars. I have WD on mine but I switched to elec/hydraulic. I wanted to use Kodiac brakes and didn't want to use electric brakes.

Is there a kit to convert my hydraulic brakes to electric without replacing everything? I just put these brakes on a couple weeks ago.

well the cheapest option would be to start from scratch with all electric but to "convert" would be an electric over hydraulic kit like bruce has ... expensive but about the best you can get
