Hello, I have a 1987 35 HP Mercury outboard. I want to remove the whole bottom cowling unit as it is filled with grease, oil, tree droppings, various lost screws/bolts from over the years, as well as to gain better access to the carb so I can fix the choke assembly.

What is the best way to go about removing this unit? I took out the 4 screws located on the underside of the cowling, but what else needs to be removed in order to get it off properly?

Thank you,

Jay

I have a 35HP 1989 merc and asked the same question. I got a good response and managed to get it off, repaired, and back on. See the response sent to me.
