My Larsen bowrider walkthrough windshield piano hinge rod snapped on the bottom part of the window. It looks like a thin aluminum rod that runs the entire length of the window. I just want to remove the old rod and replace it. The top part of the rod is about 12 inches long and is stuck in the window frame and I tried to use a punch to tap it out, no luck. The bottom piece is about 6 inches long and looks like it had been flattened in one area to hold it in place. Tried WD40, no help. I had noticed the window as getting hard to open. Anyone been there, done that? I believe is see the replacement rod on line, but have to get the old one out.

I'm surprised you can replace just the pin... I would have assumed you'd have to replace the whole hinge. If you have a good source for those kinds of parts, I'd love to hear about it. The window closer on my Larson walkthrough window broke, so I only have one to keep the window shut. I've not had much luck finding a replacement.

Used boat parts can be a bear to locate. I've seen a lot of posts lately from fresh faced boaters that don't realize that yet then reality of it sets in. Lots of missing center bow filler cushions and broken windshield parts. It's handy when the part is a universal part such as slam latches.

Thanks for the feedback. The hinge is not really a piano hinge now that i looked around it is as shown in photo. What i need to replace i see is a hinge pin. Looks like great lakes skipper has the pin in ss and ive seen aluminum too. I just need to hear suggestions on how to get this darn thing out. Photo too large to upload.

I cant even drive the top part out with a punch. Might just hit it harder then see if i can pull it out. Anyway to breakdown al to al corrosion? Acid maybe.

Kind of doubt that there is a pin in there. Looks more like there would be a protrusion from the outer frame that the inner frame is engaging. First thing I would do is disassemble the frames so that you are just dealing with the 2 pieces that hook together. Pounding on it assembled is a great way to break some glass that you will never find a replacement for.

Thx. One screw hard to get to, but i would like to take this apart and may do so. I fear the sound of cracking tempered glass as well. Ill try to post more pics. Plan to call larsen. Those folks have always been helpful.

OK, Nearly got this. Impact drill was key to screws. For Rod (pin), had to heat the Al frame with the longest SS rod, put it in a vice and pull it out gradually by spreading the slotted, bending the rod out as we went. Channel was pretty much not usable after that unless I reworked it. Contacted Larson and back and forth with Taylor Made in NY to get the PN figured out. Brian at Taylor Made figured out needed leading numbers on PN Larson had. So ordered new channels parts was best out of their Bradenton factory, $105 ea, can with the new 5/32 SS rod thrown in (not a size Ace carries). If can provide more info and pics if needed. Now have to figure out how to best install the rod that has a flat for PN and size ID. Don't really want to pound it in but that looks like the intent to hold the rod in place. I might sand it down a bit so it is snug but not as hard to install. Share any thoughts?

Find a rigid hollow tube or pipe that's just a little larger id than the ss rod. Cut it about 1/2" shorter than the rod use it to support the rod while you drive it in then cut another 1/2" off and repeat. If you find its working well you cut make you cut longer allowing you to drive in more each time but I expect it to be the exact opposite at the end. Make sure the flat or barbed part is the last to go in.
