How do I replace the Impeller on 1977 OMC 175 Sterndrive

I recently purchased a 1977 18ft Reinell 180 bowrider. Engine runs fine on a garden hose at the house, but overheats quickly in the water under a load. Person I bought the boat from says it is the impeller that needs replacing since it does not overheat while on a garden hose. It has not been replaced for two years and its been sitting for over a year. I am a auto technician but have never worked on marine applications. I am wondering how difficult it is to replace and if there are any tricks or cautions I need to know about. If it is possible for one of you guys to send me the pages I need to follow from a manual to do the repair that would be great. you can email me at martiesemail@yahoo.ca and attach the pages.

Thanks in advance

Martin.

P.S. The Sterndrive model number is 982567

I just took mine apart last night for the first time. It wont take to long maybe an hour the first time start to finsh. The manual helps a lot. You losin the shift cable by the drive gears where it gos in to the boat than take the four bolts out of the top of the out drive watch out the drive may fall on your foot mine did. The water pump is up in side the uper case. Four 3/4 inch bolts hold it in there I had to tap mine lightly with a pice of wood. The water pump shaft should slid out with the water pump. I am new to boats motors so someone with more experience may want to pipe in here I have a 86 OMC 400. (stringer)

1977 might be an Electric Shift. Different animal. No straight forward way to email instructions for just the Impeller. Suggest getting an OEM Manual. It will come in handy in the future and for checking other things while you are changing out the Impeller. Not difficult to do if it is only the Impeller that needs replacing. It will require Drive Removal. I also recommend the Kit and not just the Impeller. Also, get the Kit with the Metal Impeller Housing, Not Plastic.

I've been looking over doing the same project on my 74 electric shift outdrive. It involves quite a few steps to do it right (thus lots of pages - too many to email). The OEM shop manual's fine, but the Seloc manual seems to have a few pointers that the OEM one doesn't have, for some jobs. I'll use both when I need to.

I also have a copy of the Clymers and Seloc for the exact same reason. I even have a CD copy of the Seloc. Never have enough reference material
