I'm trying to separate the very lower case so I can replace the seal, but it's really stuck on there, I need to replace the seal inside.

Have you got the two nuts removed from the studs that come from the bottom half. Should take a 9/16 " socket. Watch out so you don't break any green & blue wires when splitting case.

Boobi, I have taken those off, if you can check out the vid you can see my situation. I think it's corostion on the long studs, but I'm really nervous about breaking something. I was woundering if heating the cases a little bit to get the aluminum to expand would help?

yes that is what you will want to do. Note: It may require O2/Ax to get enough heat. Good luck. Monte

Try a Mapp gas torch before using Acy/Ox torch. You may also want to rap the studs with a brass drift at the same time you're heating it up.

Another thing you could do is mix up some ATF & Acetone 50/50 and put it around the studs but remember, Patience.

WD40 prob isn't aggressive enough, it's more of a lubricant than a rust/corrosion dissolver IMO. What about some PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench?

PB Blaster I think is yer best bet besides heat. And if this has been in saltwater also, you are going to have to be very patient. Post results

I would def pool up some PB blaster on the nut. If it were me, I'd just use a simple propane torch. Oxy/Acet is bound to get u in trouble with overheating the nut IMO.

I think the hardest part will be "Patience".

Well success,!!!
It diffidently didn't slip right off, but after waiting and waiting and letting the ATF and Acetone do it job I was able to persuade it to come apart.
Thanks!
Any suggestions on what I should use to seal it back together with? I have RTV will that work?

I believe that your lower unit is exactly the same as mine (in signature). I assume that you don't have the Factory Service Manual (FSM). You should definitely get the FSM for your motor. It'll take uncertainty out of tasks such as the one you've just undertaken. It's really a bad thing to be heating and pounding when you're not even sure if that is what needs to be done. In this case, it worked well for ya, but it might not work so well next time. Just my opinion though. FSMs can be found on ebay or at outboardbooks.com.

I don't have my manuals with me, but I believe that OMC recommended Sealer 1000 for the seal. Since the Sealer 1000 is no longer manufactured, go with Scotchweld 847. It sets up fast so be sure that everything is clean and ready to go before slathering it on. Many places sell it including Fastenal. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it. I'm sure because that's where I got mine. You also need to apply sealer under the stud nuts and at the hole where the shift wires pass through. Use new stud locknuts. Also make sure that the wires are not pinched or have any bare spots. All of these steps are in the FSM. I hope that I'm not forgetting anything. If I remember something else, I'll let you know. Perhaps I listed some things that relate to your current task on my rebuild page.

The old ATF & Acetone trick worked pretty good, Right? Get some 3M-847 for sealer as stated above.
