Hi guys I am thinking of getting rid of the points and going electronic. My buddy has a set up for a small block Chevy. I have the OMC 200 which is a Chevy 305 so I was wondering if it will work. Is the cam gear always the same as long as it's a small block Chevy. If it will drop in what else do I need to do?

Thanks Eric.

the HEI was never marinized and isnt USCG nor UL approved for marine use.
the DELCO EST can be marinized or the EST kit purchashed for marine use.

it's dangerous and not uscg approved to use auto parts on a boat. auto parts are not spark protected. use only marine parts on a boat. boats that have auto parts on them are much more likely to go boom..

what's wrong with the points? i've got points and my boat starts like it's fuel injected... in other words. it's in good tune.

OK I'm glad I asked. Where is a good place to buy cap rotor points and condenser? I went to Napa and they gave me the wrong parts. I have the OMC 200 with a Mallory distributor. Is the Mallory stock? They couldn't reference anything by the year and model engine so I gave them the model number of the distributor and they screwed it up. Autozone maybe?

That's not entirely true. You can in fact buy a marine HEI distributor, but they are expensive. Here's a pic:
And here's a link to buy one.
