How do I take the transom clamps off?

I'm working on a new project outboard. a 1970ish Johnson 6HP I picked up a 1977 6hp for donor parts (mid, lower, and transom clamps, hood upper and lower, carb...) However, I don't know to take them off. I tried to take the bolt off the back (which the 70ish doesn't have), remove the base, and screw them out, but when they get to the base they stop. Ideas?

Otherwise knock the pins out of the twisters and replace later.

Which end will fit through the thread ??? washers or the twist tighteners with the pins in ??
Why do you need to remove them anyway ??

Wel, OMC got them in there, so they have to come out. Drive the pins out of the levers (for want of a better name) and thread them out that way.

:D:eek:If that fails, there's allways the blue tipped wrench

I dont think there's enough space for them to come out that way!

Pretty sure mine will come out once the cups are removed from the ends (not going to try for you though  )

I reckon the threads have been distorted a bit on the end. Are they the aluminium type?

That is the donor transom mount. the one I'm going to use, one of its are broken.

It doesn't look like it will fit if I try to thread them all the way in (if I break the pins out)

and they come to an abrupt halt while trying to thread them out. I have 2 tries at this, I'm going to try the force them out method first.

as far as getting the broken ones out, I'll take a grinder to them if I have to...

If you work them back and forth do you notice any advancement in threads? Maybe you just have to keep oiling and working them back and forth until they want to move out.
