How do I tell difference between long and short shaft motor?

I have a 1967 Chysler 15 1/2 boat with a 1967 Johnson motor and i found out the motoris bad.<br />How do i tell if i need a long or short shaft motor? recommend any good motors i could put in it? I dont know much about boats but i am trying to learn. thanks!

Measure from the top of the transom to the bottom of the boat. Short shaft is 15" +/- , long shaft is 20" +/-
