How do I tell if I have a Tach Short or a bad Tachometer

This is a continuation of the thread at [1]. I have gone through the sticky at [2] and have discovered that the grey wire was causing the engine not to fire. I have continuity from the grey wire on the coil to the grey wire which goes into the tachometer. Is there any thing I can do to tell if there is a short, or if the tachometer is bad?

Do this.
Leave the gray wire attached to the coil, and disconnect the gray wire from the tach. If the engine starts the tach is bad. Replace it. If the engine doesn't start, you have a short in the gray wire (Highly unlikely, but possible)
