Re: How do I test a Power Pack with no high voltage tools. Just meter.

A rough running engine may be due to interaction of the Power Packs because of faulty isolation diode in Power Packs. The diode may be checked by using ohmmeter set to high ohms scale. Check as follows:

1. Disconnect leads from power pack terminals 6 and 11

2. Connect ohmmeter leads between the 6 and 11 power pack terminals. Note reading

3. reverse ohmmeter leads and note reading. Infinite or very high reading in both directions indicates diode open. A low ohms reading in both directions (approx 100) indicates a shorted diode. A normal diode will read resistance in one direction and infinite reading in the other.

4. If diode is defective youll need to replace the power pack.

Thanks HT!

HT,

Heres what I found...

Removed wires from term. 6 and 11 on power pack and tested term 6 to 11 using meter and open 1 direction and basically open (very high) in the other direction.

So you're telling me considering your're findings this power pack tests bad right?

Any other test to do on it to confirm?

I tested each orange wire to ground and got 0.01 - 0.04 ohms. Should I see a direct short on the orange wires? Seems like I should see some coil resistnace there.

I tested the ornage wires to ground while off the pack and got the same reading.

For your PP to be good, you should of got resistance in one direction and very high in the other direction. Have you tried testing the other PP to compare?? I know theyre expensive so I dont want to be the one to tell you to buy another one, but it does sound like it as per the manual.

I ordered a new one, should be here tomorrow. I will test it prior to install to compare. I got lucky, mine is only around $100.
