How can I tell if my alternator is marine rated and not for a car?

It would be a LOT easier to see if those pictures were in focus. (they also need to be resized)

That one doesn't look like an SAE J1171 USCG approved model.

If it's not, and you have an enclosed engine compartment, you have a "bomb" waiting to go off.....

All you need is the right amount of fuel:air mixture in there and a spark.

Let your conscience be your guide....


(You should change your alternator. Check the starter and distributor too!)

Thanks Rick, the starter and distributor are marine rated. Ill get a marine alternator.

How long has it been since those spark plugs were changed? They look pretty rusty.

I bought it like that already. I plan on doing a full tune up soon.
