how do u know which wire is the kill wire???

i have a 1964 evinrude 40hp and i got the motor to run but it wont shut off.... trying to trace down the kill wire but really dont know what im looking for... can anyone help thats not on the lake already today its very nice here in spokane washington...

That motor will have dual magnetos under the flywheel. There are two skinny black wires that goe from under the flywheel to the ignition key or kill switch.

but where on the key switch do they go????? its a 4 prong.... and do i put those to wires together or different one on each post....???? thanks for the reply

Sorry, you have the wrong switch. Join the wires together and it dies. They normally go to the 2 "M" terminals
