I am sitching my aquasport from a dual outboard setup to a single larger HP outboard and figure I should add a kicker. I am wondering what the best way to do this is. I am not sure what kicker I will use yet. I have a 6hp johnson, will this push my 19-6 aquasport enough to troll?

I assume you all connect your kicker to your main steering so you can steer with the wheel. Do you also tie the throttle cable and shifter to the cockpit area? How is this done, and where can I find the hardware to make thi happen. Or should I just tie th steering in and set the throttle and gear at the motor? It would be nice to be able to control it from the front? But if it is to much of a pain in my *** or to much $$ I won't do it.

Let me know what you all think, how should I rig it and do I need a higher HP motor? A 4 stroke would be nice for trolling.

Thanks

I would think your 6hp will be adequate to troll but I'm not familiar enough with your setup to know for sure. I've got a 10hp 4stroke Honda for trolling my 21' Seaswirl WA and it does a great job. I have my motors tied together for steering from the helm but do not have helm mounted throttle controls/shifter for the kicker (it would sure be nice though). I've often wished I had a dual outboard setup on my boat....why are you changinig to a single?
Kingfisher5

got a 21' trophy 115 outboard 8 hp nissan kicker. tied together with an ez-steer rod I run the throttle at the motor. depending on the year of your motor you might be able to install a trollmaster throttle control. if your motor is older then just adjust throttle from motor.

lingcod

I have an 8hp Honda kicker, I use a rod to connected to my main motor so I can steer from the helm and use a Trollmaster throttle control.

I have my kicker tied to the main motor with a rod I fabbed up. I have to control the gear/throttle at the motor, but that is fine with me.
