How do you check the rectifier on 1978 140 hp. evinrude to tell if its working?

What that thread does not say is that if you are using an electronic digital multimeter you should use the "diode test range" not one of the ohms ranges.

Meters vary some will work on the ohms ranges but maybe not all the ranges, some can't test diodes on any of the ranges. I guess it depends on the voltage applied. Diodes don't conduct at less than about 0.7 volts
