how do you clean rub marks off?

I've got real evidence of a poor docking attempt on the side of my boat that I'd rather not see or have others see how bad of a boat driver I can be.

Pulling into a dock, I rubbed against the rubber sides of the dock pretty hard and it has left unsightly streaks along side my pretty blue hull. She's got a little bit of wax on her and the clear coat is good. I've taken my fingernail to it and it's really hard to scrape off.

What sort of compound should I use that will remove this, but not remove my gel coat?

Thanks!

Thanks! Something I can pick up at West Marine or other Marine type store?

I doubt if a solvent is gonna' touch that (but that's just my educated opinion - I've been wrong before). My suggestion is a mild rubbing compound (I've used 3M Marine Rubbing Compound with good results, there are others that are equally good), then a marine wax.

Yup. I keep a box of these on the boat. When the hull gets scuffed up I take one with me when I go swimming.

Had a transient do the same somewhere and stopped at my marina. He saw the guy that cleans/details boats and asked if he could clean it as he had tried 'everything'. Sure it can be done- the dude handed him a $50 and asked it would be enough. Sure was-- his customer went to eat and he grabbed a can of spray carb cleaner. Two squirts, very little rubbing, hosed, dried and wax-- less than 15 minutes and it looked like new. Said he would have said $10 if asked....

Carb cleaner huh? And, we've got the Magic Erasers... I think I'll go with the eraser first and then the carb cleaner, and then the compound. Great suggestions... and all that I have in the garage (even better). Thanks!

That compound they sell at Home Depot for cleaning glass top stove surfaces works like a charm for cleaning and polishing fiberglass boats, marks on cars, etc.,etc....great stuff for about $3.50 a bottle!....
