How do you hook up a water pressure gauge to an Optimax ProSX?

I installed a Teleflex water pressure in my boat, which has a 2008 225 Optimax ProSX. I ran the hose to the engine but I am not sure what to connect it to. The directions don't seem to cover my engine, and I contacted Teleflex but their guy said that he doesn't know about engines that new. Has anyone connected one before? If so, I would appreciate it if you could let me know how. Thanks in advance.

Re: How do you hook up a water pressure gauge to an Optimax ProSX?

I just installed one on a 1996 Johnson 48. The kit came with various brass threaded barbs to cover a variety of engines. I was lucky in the sense that my motor had an allen plug in the housing that the pee hole line was hooked to, not sure what to call this, I think the instructions referred to this as a exhaust housing.

Should the engine not have a removable plug the instructions stated to drill and tap the housing, which I would not have been brave enough to do even on someone else's engine.

Find your pee hole line, trace it back to where it connects to the engine housing and look at that plate/cover for a removable plug.

Good luck.

I have a teleflex water press gauge and I drilled and tapped into the exhaust cover and it worked on my old Johnson. Now I have a Merc and put a tee fitting on the telltle or pee hole line and it works but not that well as the pee hole rubber tubing is a larger diameter than the tubing that goes up to your gauage. As a result I have plug off the pee hole tube and have ALL water going to the guage. This was recommended by a merc dealer who pointed out to me that if you have a guage you do not need the water coming out the pee hole as it is there to verify that your water pump is working, just as your guage will do. On Optimax motors it is much easier to use the Smart Craft unit..If operated properly it wil; give you psi, temp, RPM, trim position and much more.
