have you tried playing with the trim sender and trim stop switch yet???
still sounds awefully hokey that its hitting the swim platform though.
Is the platform factory or an add on?

Re: how do you install trim spacers?

It's typical to need spacers in a lot of the smaller boats with swim steps, what isn't normal is them not being installed at the factory when the package was installed.
Here is a link to the section of the service manual for the trim cylinders. Page 5B-12 shows the location of the spacers. You only have to pull the end cap and rod out far enough to install the spacer/s.

There is also nothing you can do with the trim limit switch to keep it from tilting up too high, it only works to prevent excessive trim, not tilt.

I had damage to the out drive and evidently the dealer did not replace them when he repaired the drive- it is a 120 mile rt to the dealer so- i opted to replace them myself

Don-thanks for the link--Must i use the merc spanner wrench-- that is a $178 dollar wrench-- would I be able to use a regular spanner tool?

If you can remove it without the special too, go for it.

He has a Gen II drive Bondo, the caps are inside the tube, so you can't use a strap wrench like the earlier ones.

going to take a look at it today- it is a 2006 alpha 1

After looking at the spanner wrench merc sales- it looks like one can be fabricated

Is the cap recessed?

Go look, you will also need to measure the center to center for the pins in the spanner, along with the diameter of the pins.
