Standard I/O. No fresh water cooling.

How can I get some lubrication into the water pump from time-to-time?

I think I read about some kind of kit that attatches to your muffs to let some anti-freeze in? Would this work?

H.

Homerr,
It's lubed by water, when you run it.... No Lube Needed otherwise...
There are 3 things that Kill the impellers....
1) running WithOut Water......
2) Age.. The rubber takes a set,+ Hardens,+ Breaks...
3) When an engine "diesels", the Last stutter is the engine running Backwards... This Rips the blades Off the Impeller...

There's No Lubrisity in Anti-freeze...

There are actually 2 water pumps.1 is on the front of the engine and is called a circulator pump on a marine engine and needs no lubrication. The other is in your outdrive and the only time you need a little marine grease is when you are replacing the impeller to help it slide into the housing.Either way always be sure that water is running to the outdrive BEFORE you start the engine. The water is the only lube youreally need.CC

Wether it applies or not, the only impeller lube I do is when assembling, with a little bit of shaving cream. It works well for things of that nature. Putting handlegrips on bikes. Add shaving cream and they slip right on, wash the shaving cream away and no more slip. or let it dry up a little bit and it almost forms a bond, that can be loosened with water. And for the record, antifreeze does lubricate the bearing/seal on automotive water pumps. Running dry will cause them to wear much faster. But I dont think this would apply to anything marine.
Craig
