I have a 1980 Johnson 15hp Model J15RCSD that is immaculate (or close) that I would lke to use as a kicker. Can you tell me what the shaft length is or how I measure it. Thanks, Michael

Ok, so you got me to look at your post. I still don't have a good answer for you though. :rolleyes:

The model number suggests a short (15") shaft.

You can confirm by measuring from the bottom surface of the mount (where it sits on the transom) to the AV plate.

Good luck. :)

In addition to the above, the approximate measurements equal.......

15" = Short Shaft

20" = Long Shaft

25" = Extra Long Shaft

15" it is ! Measured to confirm, thanks. A short shaft! Maybe because I'm Irish?

now I guess I need an extension kit or a bracket mount. Which?

oops!! This is for my BW Montauk and requires a 20". This according to the Whaler geek forum who recommend bolting direct to transom. However which is the least of two evils...a 5" extension kit or a adjustable bracket?

I would go for the bracket, ST.

It would allow you to get the lower end out of the water when not in use without the powerhead intruding into the cockpit space.

Good luck. :)

Doesn't lowering it more than a couple of inches affect operation of some components?
