Diesel fuel, Kerosene

Wd-40 works too, but it's just deodorized kerosene

Coca Cola Classic.

Wet a cloth with it and wash with warm soapy water afterwards.

I don't discount any of the other suggestions but I use Gunk engine cleaner. Just spray it on and let it soak for a while.

JamesTN,

Yup, you bet your life, it will quickly remove even the most stubborn dried on animal parts, bird wipes, pesky dull looking paint and tatoo's of any kind.

For Tatoo's
Just spray the effected area with Mineral Spirits, hit the power switch and have at it. Finally, re-spray and light the wet spot. I can guarantee the little-un's won't want any more tatts.

As for the tar, I'd try the Mineral Sprits alone first.

Castol SuperClean, the absolute best de-greaser on the market. Forget about that orange crap. Oranges are for juicing, not cleaning. :p :D

Xcusme, with respect to kids tatoos, do you start off with higher grits and work your way down until successful or just go course at the start to save steps?

Re: How do you remove tar...

My wife drove her Mountaineer down the street behind the truck pouring hot oil on the road. The truck dumping gravel behind her....

Anyway, the truck looked like it was dipped in tar. I was so mad! After trying various things, AS A LAST RESORT, I took a bucket and gasoline and parked the truck in the street and started washing it down. The gasoline will remove it quickly, but beware that it is probably the most dangerous thing you can do. Have someone stand nearby with a fire extinguisher and hose.

I went through about 2 gallons of gas by the time I was through, and that did not include the wheel wells or underside. I figure that part of the truck is now "undercoated". Lucky for me the driveshafts were spared the coating.

To be safer, try turpentine, diesel or #2 heating oil or any other light petroleum distillate that is less volatile than gas. Anything water based is not going to work too well.

Mark.

the orange stuff the street department uses ain't the stuff you buy at walmart and works great or they wouldn't use it. if it involves too much work they wouldn't do it. :D

The orange stuff may be Goo Gone. It smells like orange and is usefull for removing some adhesive residue. Not sure about tar.

Have tried ammonia and it seems to work very good. Also used kerosene and it worked also.
