If you can get it under 100lbs you can use grayhound bus. It reasonably cheap, I have used it to ship large motorcycle parts.

Re: How do you ship a sterndrive

i work for regular ups (not ups freight) and i just yesterday saw an complete alpha drive shipped in an heavy duty cardboard box. ( an "overweight" box) about 3' x 4' x 10" wide. weighed 90 lbs. we deliver up to 150 lbs. anything over 70 lbs is considered overweight and requires a two man lift. definitely do not use a wooden pallet. we do not use power equipment. everything is loaded by hand. check the price difference for shipping it intact or split into two lighter boxes. i would be worried about the exposed shaft if you do split it. make sure its not gonna poke through the box and get bent.
