I bought a pontoon this summer late in the season from an elderly couple. It's a 1999 but the engine only has 100 hours on it, so they still have it set up on break in oil. I need to know how to adjust this to keep me from spending a fortune on oil. It has an oil injection system and is using way too much. Does anyone know how to adjust it?????
Thanks in advance

There is no adjustment to the oil mix on a 1999 model evinrude. During the break in period you are supposed to mix 50:1 in the tank along with the regular oil injection system.

Have you measured the amount of oil you are using? It should be about 2% or 50::1 mix. If you are using more oil than that, check the gasoline line for air leaks, expecally at the fittings and filters.

99 has an OMS pump it should be accurate. when breaking in an engine. the OMS does not know it is being broken in, to get the correct ratio, they add oil to the gas tank.

Thanks for the posts. I did check the fuel line and it is starting to crack in a few places and I am sure air is getting in. If I had to guess the 4 times I had it out. I would say it was probably using in between 10-25 to 1 instead of 50:1. Can the fuel line going bad cause it to send that much more oil?? When I lowered the drive to drain it after I parked it each time, it would drip oil after the water had run out to the size of a dollar bill on the ground before it dried back out. Is that normal for a fuel line that is going bad?? I will replace it.
Thanks

sounds like you need to do a decarb. the oil is residue in the exhaust chamber, normal.

see the TOP SECRET FILE, 1st thread in this forum.

Rookie, The OMS pump mixes the gasoline and oil. If the gasoline line can suck air, the OMS pump still thinks it is pumping gasoline and adds the correct amount of oil for the gas/air mix volume. This leads to overoiling.

I'm going to remove the carbs, clean them out and replace the fuel line. Thanks
